Fold Over Elastic Pony Tail Holders: A Tutorial

Good Monday Morning, friends!  I hope you had an amazing weekend!  We had a wonderfully relaxing Sunday after an early morning soccer game on Saturday followed by some errands.  Parker played great and made some awesome assists on goals.

So today I thought I would share with you my newest obsession.  The "silky hair tie".  I have no idea what to call it, so I made it up.  :)

Have you guys tried these things?  Brynn brought one home one day and I thought there is NO WAY this could hold hair.  I mean, it's like a piece of pantyhose or something.  So, since Brynn has her hair short and has no use for them, I borrowed it.  Just to see.  Y'all.  These are seriously the best things I have ever used for ponytails.  No joke.  I have A LOT of hair and these things hold all day and don't leave that weird crease in your hair when you take it down.  I became slightly consumed with the thought of making my own.  First, I had to ask my mother what the heck the material was.  Fold over elastic, in case you are as clueless as I was am.

Now, I am going to attempt a tutorial here.  I'm not saying it's going to be great, but these things are so easy, my dog could teach you. If she had thumbs.  It does require those, but just barely.

First, cut your FOE (fold over elastic) into the length you need.  I chose 10 in. because I have much hair.

Fold elastic in half.  Sorry I chose black.  Again, not really good at the tutorials and truthfully I forgot to take pictures of the other colors.

Tie ends together in a knot and cut ends at an angle.  Also, I applied fray check to help with, well, fraying.

And that's it.  All these took me five minutes, if that.

I love that I can keep one on my wrist all day without it bothering me and put it on whenever I need to.  Also, I'm not stuck in a ponytail all day becasue there is no crease when I take it out.

I'm sure there are tutorials out there that are much better than this one, but frankly, I didn't look.  I just wanted to figure it out and I had no idea what to call them to search for one.  LOL

Are these the scrunchies of 2012?  Who cares?  For now, I am in love.  Plus they cost approximately 5 cents a piece to make.

Have a great day and I'll see you tomorrow!

Linking up with these great parties.

My sister and I actually saw these at Five Below and she bought some. They do work well! They weren't cheap, though - even at Five Below! I will have to give making some a shot because they look a lot cuter around my wrist before I put my ponytail in than regular elastics!

Stopping by from Mom's Monday Mingle and hoping that you will check out morethanmommies.net! We are new followers and can't wait to read more from you!

#1 I'm loving this tutorial. I've seen lots of friends wearing these and hadn't made a purchase yet. No crease though? I'm in, since pony wearin' is my thing. Wondering though, where did you get your fold over elastic?

Now following via Mom's Monday Mingle! Great blog here! Love a follow back at Port Of Thoughts
